View Full Version : Daystar Lift
So, with budget in mind, have you all heard of this manufacturer and kit? It's a poly spacer it.

It adds 3" of lift and supposedly can take up to 35" tires. Would this be a good way to go? I can get the kit for $139 plus shipping from 4wd.com and I'd be able to avoid the 1" body lift that I would need with a 2" spacer kit.
Please steer me away from this if you know it sucks.

At first I thought you were talking about the weird looking 3 inch body lift, but the one you showed is a 2 inch budget boost spring spacer lift and a 1 inch body lift. That is the best way to go for a starter suspension on a bidget. That is basically what I have on my Jeep too. The body lift is very easy to install, the suspension lift a bit harder but still easy.
One thing you should add to the budget combo is a 1 inch engine mount lift, like this one: http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddetail.php?prod=JKS-8100. What this does is raise your engine so that you do not have to mess with the fan shroud after adding the body lift (engine is attached to frame, radiator and fan shroud is attached to the body), while at the same time lowering the angle between your transfer case and driveshaft.
Add all these three and you're on a good path to adding larger tires without having to worry about tire rub, and you also gain better approach and breakover angles.
I'm glad you caught that. i thought it was purely a suspension lift. I was wondering if it was just a 3" coil spacer rather than a 2" coil spacer and 1" body lift. Is all the extra hardware worth it? I've seen the 2" spacers for $35 a pair.
This is the actual place I'm looking at:

15% off. Says I need extended shocks though. That what threw me off.

$159 is a good price for both the body lift and spring booster together. It also includes track bar brackets, which can cost from $30 to $100 alone. Looks like a decent kit.
Stock shocks are fine for a 2 inch budget boost, thye will be running extended most of the time, and you might reach the limits of the shocks when fully extended, this will eventually destroy the shocks. I have been running my stock shocks with budget boosters since June and they're still ok. You should eventually look into replacing the shocks too.

Shocks are where you want to spend good money on a lift to get a ride that will be bearable (just ask Nate, Ive been telling him for years and I think he finally believes me now). That price is pretty standard although I would look at just getting a regular budget boost lift which is pretty much the same thing and they will put the shocks in the kit for you.
If you go this route, do yourself a favor and get some Old Man Emu shocks. You only need to buy 3, I have one I will give you for free thats brand new. I wouldnt recommend taking your jeep offroad with stock shocks and a budget boost, the factory shocks wont last long beating against their limit of travel.

If your on a budget, I would get two of these (http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Jeep/TJ/Product.aspx?folder=TJSp&part=RE1334), 2 of these (http://store.arbusa.com/Tj-Wrangler-Frt-Firm-Shock-P20605.aspx), and one of these (http://store.arbusa.com/Tj-Wrangler-Rear-P20608.aspx). That will net you enough room for 32's, if you want 33's all you need to do is add a 1 inch body lift like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-97-06-Jeep-Wrangler-TJ-LJ-Body-Lift-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem439bd3953fQQitemZ29 0377143615QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAcce ssories).
With these parts you will have a great ride and enough to run a 33 like you want :2thumbs:
You rock Ron. I'll take you up on that offer.
