9 April 2010 i'm doing a tranny replacement on a 95 Jeep YJ AX-5 tranny!

Goodyear wingfoot tire center off of south cushman starting at 6pm. i greatly appreciate a little extra help. can't have 2 many people there but a couple extra sets of hands would be great! contact me at 907-888-9305 if your interested in helping. i'm trying to get BANE (my YJ) fixed to hopefully be a productive member of FAO.

You don't have to have a running rig to be a productive member of FAO. Being there for folks is the way to go. I wish I could help, but I'm eyeball deep in packing my house.

It's and easy fix if he's willing to spend around $20. Or if he wants to by a TJ axle from me and swap out all the axle shafts and such. Or just take apart the disconnect and space out the shift fork. Or diagnose the vacuum issue itself.

Per the FSM for the 231 in a vehicle with a disconnect axle.

Shift to 2WD position. Locate vacuum switch on front of
transfer case. Apply 15 in. Hg vacuum to "L". See Fig. 1. Vacuum
should be present at "M". Connect a vacuum gauge to "N". Shift to 4WD
position. Apply vacuum to "L". Vacuum should be present at "N". If
switch fails any test, replace switch.

Looking at the back of the tcase where the switch is the vacuum lines come out. Starting at the top going clockwise the fittings are "P" "M" "L" "N"

If this test pans out good the the shift motor is bad. Only way to fix that is by one of the solutions above or get a new one. I did have one and may still have one. Actually I think I have a YJ D30 mostly complete sitting here as well.

$275 for the whole axle. He'll need the axle shafts, bearings, brakes, and claipers for it to work right. That's a good deal compared to the junkyards or getting it all new. Then he'll have to buy new axle seals. I think I have the right part numbers for getting them from carquest, napa, or schucks somewhere saved on my computer.

Could work a deal if he helps me strip the jeep down and pull the axle so the jeep can be taken off.
