View Full Version : Warn 8274 rebuild
So, here is a site I found to help guide me through making this winch work. I'm not sure when I'm going to have a chance to try this but but maybe you all can take a look at the site and give some thoughts.

interesting.I'd be tapping into Ron's knowledge if it looks pretty straight forward to him...

You cant tell me that it looks that hard? Compare that to a gear change or a heater core swap before you say its deeply involved... :D

Yep! I'm sure his winch won't be sitting on the garage table through 2 rigs sold.....

So you are just wanting to take it apart, clean it all up, put new seals, bushing and thrust washer in? Pretty simple. I have a parts cleaner if you want to use that to clean every thing up. I'm not the biggest fan of using brake cleaner to clean stuff up. Also for the grease use Valvoline Syn Power #985 (tube0 or #986 (1lb tub). It's available at napa and schmucks. This stuff is sticky and replaces the older grease that warn recommended. also be sure to clean ALL the old grease out. Mixing greases is not the best of practices.
We'll have to see how the week of the 10th goes. I'll be "off" work from the 10th to the 18th but with a newborn. This may be on hold for a little while. Then again, I might just need to get out of the house, even if it is to the garage.

I would delete all of the spaml, but this is the only thread that I don't have moderation powers on *hint*
No worries. I actually enjoyed the jacking.

Whatever puts a wind in your sails. (Goes off to remove more of the parts to be upgraded from the new rig)
