have a reman-ed 242 in the ZJ. in high range and all time, the front wheels have power to them. When I shift into low range, I have no power transferring to the front wheels.

Any ideas?

The problem has to lie in the low range linkage (4), adjustment, low range planetary gear (29) or shift collar (28) or the intermediate clutch shaft (32).

Attached is a blow up of your 242.

I was going to suggest linkage as well. With a 242 (as opposed to a 249), you shgould have a true 2wd option.
The 2 problems mentinoed make me think its a linkage problem, not actually going into 2wd, but rather the "full-time" 4wd.

Here I go thinkin' again...

Geoff is on the right track...
Didn't you have front driveshaft length troubles too???
That the first Cherokee i've heard of with that "issue"...
I would check the motor mounts and the transfer case mounts for damage/failure. Is it possible that a prior owner had an accident & tweaked it???
Could try loosening the motor mount perch (not the two long bolts, but the actual frame mount bolts) & transfer case mounting bolts and see if you can shift it back into alignment... Just thinking "outside" the box...

Hey, do you still have the old driveshaft from my spare Cherokee???

no. I twisted it off up on 55 mile in September of last year.

I am goign to try the linkage adjustment first, then I will look at the engine/tranny alignment and see if there is somethign out of whack there as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
