How hard is it? Do you have to sand the tub or can you just roll it on?

I did mine a few years ago. Do yourself a favor and buy some Durabak, it holds up a lot better than herc. It takes a day to do. Remove all the interior, rough sand the inside of the tub, clean it with the stuff they tell you to get (I forgot what it is but they carry it at Fairbanks paint and glass), then lay on 3 coats of Durabak.

Now, the cons... It makes the floor a editeditediteditedit to clean. Dirt and mud gets down into the texture and likes to hang out there. If you get a scrub brush and hose it out every few months in the summer its not that bad though.

Forgot to mention, I picked mine up in Anchorage a few years back but you can get in Fairbanks now at Polar Supply.

I did it to my TJ last year and I have to agree with Ronster it is a pain in the butt to clean the mud out but....... the question is, which is more of a pain, Herculining or stock interior? I guess if you just take the carpet out and run like that it would be fine but I personally don't like the looks of just bare paint inside.

You do have to sand or at lest scratch up all areas that you will be applying liner to. You can just use some steel wool and scratch it up real good but it all comes down to how long you want it to last and how good you want it to look. I will say this though it WILL NOT stick to a painted surface without some kind of prep work.

I did mine in a day (from removing the interior, sanding, cleaning and rolling out the durabak). Its not hard, just really make sure you have everything prepped like everyone has stated before.

You can get the Durabak colored to match your tub too if you really wanted.

Don't use herculiner that stuff sucks. If you are going to do it yourself get the durabak like ron said. There was someone around here that had the gun for spray on liners but can't remember who right off hand. I prepped my XJ years ago for it and still haven't done it. Hi-tech on van horn has sold the durabak for years just never advertised it and they have another brand that is closer to what auto trim uses but it is expsensive.

I don't like the looks of Durabak and the fact that it keeps crud and dirt like Ron said. This new liner on the market, Monstaliner, is not supposed to hold stuff and lays nice and thick. I'm not sure if anyone in town sells it, maybe A-town?

Here's an nice write up showing how thick it lays and what it looks like when dry:

Here's a very nice write up about lining your tub in general, done with Monstaliner, but could have been anything else.

Don't use the Herc.

I used it on my Jeep many years ago. Faded real bad (within two weeks) and while it didn't hold in mud, if you used any sort of pressure (heck a good garden hose nozzle) it would start to shred and fall off.

Also the little pieces that give it texture can be sharp, I ripped a few pants while getting to close and had several children get scratched while rubbing hands down the side. Yes they shouldn't have but kids will be kids.

Don't waste your time with that stuff. :deadhorse:

a slick liner kind of defeats the purpose IHMO. To each their own I guess...

It actually isn't slick, though it looks that way. There's a really good close-up shot of the dried liner and you can see it's textured. Judging from guys at jf.com that installed it they say it isn't slick at all.

Looks slick from a distance:

Here's the close up of the textured surface:

Looks better than herc but looks like it would be really slick when it's wet.

It looks like it would be but it really isn't. If you see that last picture of how the stuff lays down up close it is actually pretty coarse.
