Welcome to interior Alaska. Not sure what the wheeling plans are in the immediate future (I am waiting on a new leafspring), but somebody will post up. If you like, we occasionally have lunch (typically in Fairbanks) so we can get together. The next "Frozen Lunch" is Wednesday the 3rd. Post up if you have the time off and want to attend.

unfortunatly i probably wont be able to attend any frozen lunches. I work days and cant get away. But maybe a frozen dinner sometime for the ppl who cant make lunch? I wont be able to wheel for the next couple of weeks anyway cause im havin issues with my air shocks after the trip up and i need to get a new regulator for my nitrogen bottle

Well ya see, jeeps are just the best there is and people are finally catchin on. Mines a 98, the motor, trans and transfer case are stock. Its got a Banks intake and exhaust on it. The long arms are from rock krawler with 9"s of stretch in the back end with gen right comp corners. The tires are goodyear mt's with a third of the lugs cut off on recentered H1 double beadlocks. Its only got dana 44's right now 60's to come later.

I dont believe the "best their is" part...but I like the build. Samis with yota axles are tops...but I am yota biased.

1. Who is Justin Beiber?
2. My hair is gone and has been for a while now
3. The mid-life crisis mobile sure is fast and I enjoy it.
4. I rest my case!
Goodness, did I strike a nerve?

Well got the shocks all full of oil and nitrogen again if anybody is goin out anytime soon. I'd like to get out at least once before winter hits. Just read to post about the possible ride the 27th but just read the bylaws and realized i dont quite meet all the requirements. Im missing a few things like insurance, tail lights (brake lights but no running lights), or an emergency brake. My jeep has become strictly a trail rig so i let the insurance and registration lapse. I dont know how big of an issue this is. SOME HELP PLEASE. Other than that i would be down to go. I would have posted this in the upcoming rides section but it told me i dont have the permissions to post there.

Unfortunately the bylaws do require insurance and registration. It sucks but thats how it is. I feel your pain. Right now I'm keeping my xj street legal just for this reason.

I don't think it sucks. It usually comes down to the dollars that registration and insurance require. If your rigs is so badass that it can't fit some taillights then you are probably going to hate waiting for the other lesser rigs on the trail anyways. I for one enjoy the somewhat level playing field.
An emergency brake is a pretty reasonable device whether a vehicle is destined for the trail or the street.

Just for SNG lets think about this scenario:
You are offroad with the rest of the club, some are wheeling 15K plus vehicles and most are daily drivers. You are with them in your uninsured and non emergency brake rig. The line stops because someone is having problems and you have to stop on a grade. You stop your vehicle and get out, however, it pops out of gear (ask me if it could happen). Meanwhile someone is behind you, they got out of their rig as well and was walking in between the two rigs and gets squashed...
Insurance and parking brakes make sense. Anyone can get insurance and E brakes can be put on any rig, its really not that hard. Do it for everyone around you if you dont want to do it for yourself...

Brake yes. Ins no. They won't cover you on a trail only rig. Errr. Nevermind.

Actually, we have been through this before and I did over a week of research. There are companies that insure "off road vehicle only" situations. I dont think that anyone here cares about registration, but I think we all agree on the e-brake. I originally found them from an episode of Extreme 4x4 on TNT. Check here (http://www.carinsurancequote.net/off-road-vehicle-insurance.html) for some of your options if you choose to go this route...

I see no options there. I see a laim presentation that states you can get the ins. There is an option for a quote but all that does is link to well known insurance companies. there is no real information there. Also you have to look at the definition of off road vehicle. Most are applying to ATV's, UTV's and such. My insurance will not insure an Off highway vehicle like a jeep or buggy or something. Heck they wont even cover my jeep now as it is going offroad. I've contacted the big name ins companies and none of them do. I was told by everyone of them that is something happened off road in a non typical vehicle use fashion that I would not be covered.
Can you send my links or papers or anything on the research you did. ONly thing I can find is for atv's and such and nothing for a buggy, rock crawler, jeep etc.

Dude, google "off road car insurance" they tell you how to get it. It's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.
Last post on the subject.

Well first off, i never said my rig was too badass for tail lights but thanks for putting it that way. I just never got around to putting any on after i put comp corners on. I just threw a couple of cheap LED's for brake lights cause i knew id never drive it on the road again. And actually i llke riding with rigs that are a little less capable than mine, gives me a little more time to stop and look around, not to mention i dont mind helping people out when they get stuck and offering some advice. Secondly if i stop on a hill, take ten seconds to turn the steering wheel to full lock then it could only roll back like 5 feet before it runs off the trail and if you park that close together on a trail, then i dont want be wheeling with you anyway. And in the 8 years ive drove this jeep ive never once set the parking brake. wouldnt ya know it, its always been where i parked it. And with insurance, i can find other people to wheel with that will cost me a lot less money, thanks for playing guys

This is exactly why the introductions thread was put in place and why qualifications were put into place. Membership isnt designed to be a 100% success rate. This guy may be a great dude, probably is. However the thought that the club should or would change it's rules for a guy who is thinking about trying for membership...LOL.
Overall it's a dual interview process. We interview prospectives and they interview us to see if it's a good fit. Sometimes its a good fit, some times not. With any luck, we will still see him on the trail systems and enjoying Alaska in a responsible manner. All due respect, wheeling in Alaska is a bit different than anywhere else in the world I have wheeled so throwing out quantitive statistics like wheeling 8 years does not qualify one to alter the rules.
So, in closing, yes, thanks for playing!
