Anyone out there familiar with the D44 carriers found in FSJ's? I'd like to find out if my parts rigs have gears I can use. For my J20/M715 project I got a used set of 4:88 gears for the front D44HD. I still need rear gears for it. It's currently running 3:73 in a front D44HD and rear D60. I think I need a 3:92 or higher carrier to run that 4:88 in front. What about the rear D60?
I have a 73 J4000 parts rig with D44 closed knuckle front and rear D44 with 4:11 gears and I'm trying to find out if it's gears and carriers would swap into my 89 Waggy or could be used in the front of the J20/M715 project with teh 4:88 gears. The 89 has D44's front and rear with 3.27 and a rear limited slip currently. Are the side gears different in these D44 fronts? I also have a 70 waggy with a rear 44 and front 27A or possably D30 to through into the mix. Not sure what gears it has in it but I'd guess 4:11.
Ultimatly I'm looking for 4:88 in the J20/M715 and lower gearing for the waggy. Waggy will remain open as it's going to be a daily driver and the J20/M715 will get a rear locker. Not sure on the front yet...
